Halation: The phenomenon where light-colored glass, when surrounded by darker glass, seems to spread beyond actual boundaries, creating a halo effect.

Haik Brush: Specialized brush used to apply shelf wash to kiln shelves or molds.

hammered glassHammered Glass: A texture in the back of some glasses that looks like repeated hammer strokes. It is created by passing the still molten sheet of glass through patterned rollers. This is single and double hammered.

Heart: The separation bar of the H in an H lead. It is the boundary separating pieces of glass in a leaded construction. It is generally 1 1/16" thick.

Homosote: Fire resistant building material often used as a soldering surface for stained glass construction.

H Bar: An "H" shaped metal bar used as a support between two sections of a panel.

Hopper: A window whose sash is hinged at the bottom.

Hot Glass: Term referring to the process of working glass by applying heat like fusing and kilnworking.

Hydrofluoric Acid: The only acid that attacks silica, the basic component of glass. It is highly caustic. It is used for etching glass.
