1. Is doing stained glass expensive?

A: NO! Getting started in stained glass is no more expensive than getting started in any other other type of craft. The basic tools needed are minimal and come in a range of prices depending on type and quality. You can spend as much or as little as you want.

2. What equipment is necessary?

3. Is stained glass difficult to do?

4. I have no artistic ability. Can I still do stained glass?

A: YES! There are thousands of existing patterns and books that give glass and color suggestions for the project. Your local Retailer or Studio can also help you choose the best pattern, colors and glass to use.

5. Why do I need "special tools"?

A: The tools are designed for working with glass and make the job easier to do. It's the same reason you use a hammer to drive a nail instead of your hand.

6. What's the difference between leaded glass and the copper foil method?

A: The two basic methods of of stained glass assembly are lead came and copper foil. Leaded glass uses pre-formed pieces of lead called came to hold the glass together; intersection called joints are soldered and the entire piece is puttied. Copper foil, attributed to Tiffany, involves wrapping the glass pieces with copper foil tape and soldering them together, front and back. Most beginning classes teach the copper foil method because its used in many different kinds of of stained glass projects.

7. After I take a beginning class will I be able to make lamps and other things?

8. Do you cut yourself often?

A: NO! with proper instruction in the fundamentals of handling and cutting glass, stained glass is safe and easy to do.

9. Can I make money doing stained glass?

A: YES! Many people have turned their hobby into a paying enterprise. There are many outlets for selling stained glass including craft shows, bazaars, consignment shops, and taking on commission works. You'll save money too by making your own stained glass gifts.

10. How do I get started in stained glass?
