Aug 23 - Sep 11: The International Festival of Glass
West Midlands, UK. The International Festival of Glass (IFG), billed as “the greatest glass gathering in the UK”, will return to Stourbridge this summer between 23rd August and 11th September 2010: with activities taking place throughout the town’s historic Glass Quarter. The IFG is an umbrella term to describe a comprehensive program of events including the prestigious British Glass Biennale (27 August to 11 September), a series of glass making Masterclasses , and a four day Glass Festival. Open to the Public, the latter includes a ‘fun and affordable’ glass auction, demonstrations, exhibitions, ‘have a go’ sessions and of course, plenty of retail opportunities. Hattiesburg, MS. The 7th annual Flowers of Hope Reception, honoring the participating artists as well as area breast cancer survivors will be held at the downtown Hattiesburg branch of the Library of Hattiesburg, Petal & Forrest County (329 Hardy Street). The public is invited to take a sneak peak of all the panels from this year's project on exhibit in the galleries at the Library. This year's Flowers of Hope panels will remain on display in the galleries at the Library the first 2 weeks of October (October 1 - 15, 2010), before being distributed to the patients identified by BCAT. Pittsburg, PA. Pittsburgh's first all glass public art installation will be unveiled on January 11 at 11 Stanwix Street, downtown Pittsburgh. Glass artists Dan Spitzer and Jill Reynolds were awarded the prestigious "Sculpting Light on Stanwix" project in April 2009 to design and produce a permanent glass lighting installation for the lobby of 11 Stanwix, a historic 1960s-era high-modernist office tower in downtown Pittsburgh. Their creation depicts Pittsburgh's three rivers using nearly 1,500 blown glass globes - created in the shape of water droplets. The breath taking installation is not to be missed. Pittsburgh, PA. At Pittsburg Glass Center. Best known for his pop art approach to oversized place settings and Venetian goblets, Miller will be at PGC April 26 - 30 teaching a workshop and making work for his upcoming exhibition that opens in July. He will transform the Hodge Gallery into a "Claes Oldenburg-like" diner replete with his over-sized fast food from glass french fries to glass burgers from his Blue Plate Special series as well as examples from each of his major series. His workshop "Pushing the Envelope" will take place on Friday, April 30. It will focus on numerous glass blowing and hot sculpting techniques including mold blowing, graal, hot torch, some cold shop processes and use an array of color applications.
