When the glass is fired on the mold, it settles into the spaces created and gives the effect that the glass has been carved away. This technique lends itself to using text, texture and imagery. In this three week class, students will go beyond the basics of bead making, learning to use the flame and gravity to their advantage. This will enable you to make larger beads with more stable ends and a good pucker. We will discuss how to pull stringer in a variety of sizes, and make cane of multiple colors. Students will also learn how to use their stringer and where in the flame they should work, which will allow them more control with their stringer work. After we master the stringer and cane pulling, we will learn about dot placement and applications, along with using frit and tips for encasing beads.
