Lampworking

This is three hours of beginner instruction in lampworking, also called flameworking or torch work, using a torch to melt and shape the glass. All tools & supplies are provided for the class. Beginner Stained Glass Classes
DeLand, FL. Held at Glassic Arts Stained Glass. Tuition: $15 per class or $60 class package. No Experience Necessary!!! Learn the basics of Stained Glass - cutting, grinding, copper foiling, and soldering. Construct a 7 x 10 inch Victorian panel. Class fee includes the use of shop tools. Aug 9: Dangle Bracelet Class
Lexington, KY. Held at Hallock Stained Glass. Tuition $95 + tool kit, $26. 11:00 am - 3:00 PM. In this advanced level jewelry making class, we will combine the skills our students learned in our Beaded Earring Class and our Beaded Bracelet Class to make a Dangle Bracelet. We provide the supplies and using your choice of beads we will walk you through designing, sizing and assembling a bracelet in the class. All of the supplies to make one bracelet are included in the class fee. A tool kit is also required and is not included and available for purchase on the day of the class if you need one. Aug 27: Beginning Borosilicate Implosion Pendants
Madison, WI. Held at The Vinery Stained Glass Studio. Tuition: $50, includes all materials. 6 - 9 PM.  Learn the techniques to create popular implosion pendants in this three hour class. Aug 27 - Sep 4: Tradition and Innovation Master Glass Class
Scotland. Held at North Lands Creative Glass in collaboration with April Surgent, Jiri Harcuba will lead a course in which students will re-examine the various techniques of glass engraving. There will be discussions, demonstrations and hands on sessions during which students will be encouraged to discuss their own ideas and aspirations. The course is based on the sculptural aspects of engraving, intaglio and cameo engraving and painterly qualities achievable by carving on coloured glass. Aug 27 - Sep 4: Tradition and Innovation Master Glass Class
Scotland. Held at North Lands Creative Glass. The class will develop personal concepts/icons by utilizing the techniques of drawing, photography, and thinking three dimensionally to enhance idea development. We will then endeavor to actualize these ideas. There will be daily demonstrations of sculptural forms in the hot shop with a focus on multi person teams and teamwork. All students will be encouraged to participate in the demonstrations. Class discussions in conjunction with the hot shop experiences will cover whatever questions the students may raise and want to explore. Sep 10, 17, & 24: Thick Striped Fused Bowls

If you’ve already had a few fusing classes at the Vinery, we’re sure you’ve dreamed of making a strip bowl, and here’s your chance! Carol will take you through the steps involved in making these beauties, and you will have the luxury of using our tools and leaving the kiln firings to us. Oct 1 & 8: Itty Bitty Frames Fusing Class

In this workshop we will be making fused picture frames that you can decorate to your linking using the glass of your choice. Oct 2, 9, 16, & 23: Kiln Carving: Experimentation in Texture
Pittsburg, PA. Tuition: $205. 6:30 - 9:30 PM. In this 4-week, course, you will experiment with kiln-carving using fiber blanket, sand or plaster silica molds. When the glass is fired on the mold, it settles into the spaces created and gives the effect that the glass has been carved away. This technique lends itself to using text, texture and imagery. Oct 6, 13, & 20: Intermediate Flameworking Skill Development
Madison, WI. Held at The Vinery Stained Glass Studio. Tuition: $150 and includes all materials and use shop minor torches. 6-9 PM. In this three week class, students will go beyond the basics of bead making, learning to use the flame and gravity to their advantage. This will enable you to make larger beads with more stable ends and a good pucker. We will discuss how to pull stringer in a variety of sizes, and make cane of multiple colors. Students will also learn how to use their stringer and where in the flame they should work, which will allow them more control with their stringer work. After we master the stringer and cane pulling, we will learn about dot placement and applications, along with using frit and tips for encasing beads. Oct 14: Mastering the Round Bead

Want to know why you get those jagged holes on your beads, and how you can prevent them? Do your beads lean one way or the other? Are they a bit lumpy, or just not quite even? This class will focus on mastering the elusive round bead. You’ll learn to predict how (and when) your glass is going to move, how to control the footprint of your bead and gravity will become your friend. You will get more out of this class if you have taken a beginning bead class, but beginners are definitely welcome. This class will be taught using soft glass, and dual-fuel torches.
